Got Questions? We Have the Answers!

Q: What do I wear to a yoga class?

A: It depends on which type of yoga class you are going to. But for guys, it’s fine if they wear baggy T-shirts, and for the ladies it’s better if they wear tight fitting tops so that when performing over the shoulder exercises, their top does not fall on to their heads. Wear clothes that are stretchy so you can easily perform the various yoga poses.

Q: What do I wear to hot yoga or Bikram class?

A: Hot yoga classes and Bikram yoga classes will be taught in 80-100°F temperature, guaranteeing a good sweat. So, wearing less is more in this situation. Try to wear form fitting, breathable, and sweat absorbing clothes. Steer away from clothing that will wear you down by retaining sweat such as cotton.  For the ladies we recommend you wear:  shorts, sports bra, and a tank top. Staying away from the regular long yoga pants will help during hot yoga. For the men: shorts or swim trunks will do the trick.

Q: How should I prepare for the yoga class?

A: Yoga requires you be well hydrated, especially if you are coming to a hot yoga class as you will be sweating a lot. However, please avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee, tea, soft drinks and even green tea before coming to a class. Also make sure you are properly rested.

Q: Should I eat something before a yoga class?

A: DEFINITELY! BUT, don’t go overboard.  It is better if you have a light snack at least 2 hours prior to the class. Half a peanut butter sandwich or fruits are a good option to get your energy levels up for the class.

Q: I’ve never done yoga, can I still attend?

A: Of course, you can come, that’s the beauty of yoga! It transcends abilities and you can join so many others who have never done yoga before and start this amazing journey with us.

Q: What should I bring to the yoga class?

A: There are a few things you should have with you when coming to the yoga class, such as a mat, towel, and a water bottle. If you are going to a hot yoga class, you might want to bring a larger towel or a super absorbent one (trust me you will need this one). However, all these items are available for purchase at Sweat Body Lounge.

Q: What are the yoga class etiquettes?

A: There are a few etiquettes that are important for a yoga class, such as:

  • Be on time for the class.
  • If you plan to leave early, inform your teacher beforehand
  • Please take off your shoes before entering the yoga studio
  • Please put your mobile phones and pagers on silent
  • When setting up your mat, please be considerate of your neighbor’s space
  • Please don’t put on strong perfumes or lotions before coming to the yoga class
  • Please observe silence during class and avoid talking to others needlessly

Q: Why is heat used in the class?

A: Heat is the best way to protect the muscles from damage and strain due to the stretching. It helps thin the blood, allowing easy circulation throughout the body.

Q: What if I’m not flexible enough for yoga?

A: Not to worry, when starting yoga no one is flexible. You need to give your body time to adjust to the postures. However, yoga is not about having flexibility. It is all about improving health, gaining strength, stability and staying happy. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have the flexibility of the people around you, give it time and you will see that over time, your flexibility will increase.

Q: Can I practice yoga if I have an injury?

A: If you have an injury, please inform your teacher first. This way, he or she can help you and be more attentive towards your injury and concentrate on proper alignment. During the class, please don’t push yourself too much, stay within the limits of your injury. Give your body time and it will heal.
